Week 7: Project Direction
Woodfordia
Introductory Brief
The Woodford Folk Festival ideal intentions are to provide
an informative and entertaining experience to the 100,000 visitors and performers
it attracts each summer to its unique site called Woodfordia.
The organising committee for the Woodford Folk Festival
endeavour to develop their annual entertainment experience by providing an
educational experience and year-round presence. Therefore, my design intention
is to develop an Educational/Conference Centre accompanied by community
facilities such as areas for group discussions and entertainment to strive an
on-going year-round presence into the site of Woodfordia.

Concept 1:Installation, Movable, Folding
Architecture, Retractable system; a structural support system.
Concept 2: Permanent Architecture; Permanent Building

ORIGINAL CONCEPT:
A versatile installation/building which houses an Educational/Conference Centre

A learning centre that provides information
about the diverse cultures and present/future sustainability; and environmental
restoration of habitats, biodiversity and eco-systems

Conference Centre including community
facility/ties for entertainment, retail amenities, workshops and group
discussions during the Festival eg: the versatility of an open outdoor area for
communal group discussions and workshops which can convert effectively into a
learning area/space.

Why?
- Visitor Survey has revealed that the top
attendance motivators are learning and culture, followed by party and
friends and family and entertainment.

Festival organisers envision an inclusive,
creative and inspiring community which would foster the growth of cultures and
traditions through generations, an underlying motivation for the Queensland
Folk Federation

Organisers long-term aims for sustainable and
enriching growth

Commitment of the QFF to sustainability and
environment restoration of habitats, biodiversity and eco-systems has become an
integral to the festival.

- Embracing
notions of Woodford into the functionality of the building/installation
As Woodford is known to have a strong commitment to the environment, an environmental programme featuring talks, debates and films
will be a significant
performance held in the building/installation.
